Southwestern Virginia Gas Disconnection Policy For Nonpayment
Effective: July 1, 2024
In accordance with changes to the Code of Virginia enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia regarding disconnection provisions for public utilities, Southwestern Virginia Gas has updated its disconnection policy for residential customers.
Gas bills are issued around the first of each month. The amount shown on the monthly gas bill is due upon receipt of the bill. If the payment is not received by the 20th day of the month, a late payment charge will be added, and a past due notice will be issued informing the customer that their gas service is subject to disconnection if payment is not received.
Failure to receive the monthly gas bill will not release the customer from their payment obligation.
Disconnection for nonpayment of bills or fees may occur at any time after a residential account is 60 days past due.
Disconnection of a residential account will not take place:
- When the local temperature forecasted by the National Weather Service is at or below 32 degrees Fahrenheit within the 24 hours following a scheduled disconnection; and
- On Fridays, weekends, state holidays, or the day preceding or following a state holiday.
